Combat
In the World of Shinobi combat is essential. There are several methods of combat. Shinobi rely on all types of techniques, tools, and styles to survive. There are thousands of styles and techniques, all unique. Many Shinobi all have similar basic training, but in order to survive in combat a Shinobi needs not only a good understanding of the basics, but unique tactics that will catch an opponent off guard. A Shinobi cannot live off of the same trick over and over again.
Ninjutsu is a common technique. The Shinobi will utilize different elements, tools, and various chakras to create offensive, defensive, and supportive spells.
Genjutsu is a complex technique. It does not deal physical damage, but can simulate physical pain. Genjutsu attacks the mind, causing the target to be confused or believe they are stuck in a living hell.
Taijutsu is the simplest techniques. It deals with attacking with punches, kicks, and other parts of the body. Taijutsu can be used to break bones or bruise the body. Taijutsu is one of the more destructive fighting styles.
Combat comes in many forms. It can involve one on one battles, or one on many, or many on many. In the battlefield there are no real rules, the winner is the one who is not left dead. Additionally all types of tools are used in combat. A Shinobi has many different strategies they can use to survive in combat. Regardless of the situation there are various aspects of battle. A Shinobi has four different aspects that they need to train in order to grow and become strong.
Stamina is basically how much health your character has. When your Stamina reaches zero you will be unable to continue fighting. It doesn't necessarily mean your character has died.
Chakra is basically how much energy your character has. All techniques have a Chakra cost. When your Chakra reaches zero, you will be unable to perform techniques that require Chakra to pull them off.
Strength is basically a measure of how powerful your character is. The higher the strength, the greater physical damage your character will do and the stronger their Taijutsu will be.
Speed is basically a measure of how fast your character is. The higher the speed, the faster your character will be. Speed is used to decide which Shinobi will move first and well a character can dodge or evade.

Now, some of you at this point may be thinking... "WTF are rounds?" Well to put it simply a round is the duration it takes for each Shinobi to make their action. Once speed is determined, after the first Shinobi acts and once the last Shinobi has acted, it will then move to the next round. As a result a turn may have many rounds, so looking into techniques that can injure a person per round may be another key to victory.
Now as far as actions go, a Shinobi may do up to 5 actions per round. What does that mean? Well any sort of attack, item use, or recovery measure that is taken by a Shinobi is an action.
So it is safe to assume that anything that doesn't affect the Shinobi or their opponent is not an action. That means that running towards an opponent, or breathing, all these minor details are not actions.
At any time during your turn you may focus chakra, using up one of the actions you have. This will restore 10% of your max chakra. Thus, you may restore up to 50% Chakra per turn.
When in combat the Shinobi with higher speed will move first. So if Shinobi A has 100 Speed and Shinobi B has 50 Speed, Shinobi A will move first.
When dodging the more speed a Shinobi has the better chance they will have to dodge. By exerting speed, the Shinobi can avoid techniques. Of course when they exert speed they lose amounts of speed (temporarily). The best way to explain this method is by demonstration.
Genjutsu is a tricky style. It warps the targets mind, bending reality to the users whim. So of course the best way to avoid it would be to identify what type of Genjutsu the user is casting, that is to say, which sense the user plans to use as the catalyst. For example, the Sharingan casts illusions through the eyes, so by keeping your eyes closed, you could avoid having to fall victim to that type of technique. Other types of Genjutsu may affect someone by touch, by sound, by taste, or by smell. It's up the one fighting the Genjutsu to decide which type they are up against and find the best method to halt the illusion.
However, a Shinobi has other methods of combating Genjutsu. Another way is for the one being affected to stop the flow of chakra throughout their body, then all at once release it (using "Kai (Release"), breaking the hold of the illusion. However if a Genjutsu user is skilled, they can still maintain their hold over their opponent by releasing more of their own chakra than what is being released by their target.
Another method, which the Genjutsu user cannot stop, is by having a comrade or another person come and force their chakra into the body of the person who is being affected by the Genjutsu. This will disrupt the affected persons flow of chakra and wake them up.
When Ninjutsu is used, elements must be considered. There are 5 major elements, Katon (Fire), Suiton (Water), Raiton (Lightning), Doton (Earth), and Fuuton (Wind). Basically... Water defeats Fire, Fire defeats Wind, Wind defeats Lightning, Lightning defeats Earth and Earth defeats Water (Don't ask... this is how it works in Naruto. >_<). So this leaves many opportunities for various counters and openings. If you blindly attack an opponent without knowing their abilities you could end up getting yourself defeated quite easily.
If a Shinobi casts Katon: Goukakyuu no Jutsu, the Grand Fireball, then the Shinobi who is on the other end of the attack could cast Suiton: Daibakufu no Jutsu, the Grand Waterfall. The Fireball would be extinguished and the Waterfall would go on to hit the first Shinobi. This is an elemental counter, which cannot be dodged.
Examples of Actions: Any Physical Attack, Tossing any sort of Item, Dodging, Blocking, Using any sort of item, resting, focusing chakra, etc.
Actions are limited to 5 per turn, because some Shinobi may take advantage of an unlimited amount of actions and create a lengthy post that will ultimately result in the death of the opponent without the opponent getting a chance to defend themselves.
